This week in recent fishing history


In Port Washington, usually light effort from the ramp and light to moderate effort from shore.  The actions has been slow for boats but the action is usually exceptional from shore.  Fish Days in Port Washington is this weekend, expect the ramps to be closed temporarily. In Sheboygan, usually moderate effort from the ramp and moderate to strong effort from the piers. The action has usually been slow from the boats but there has been exceptional action from the piers.
Reports based on personal observations and angler reports from the past three years.  Please comment or share information.
Port Washington
Ramp: Over the past few years, there has typically been light effort and the action has been slow.  Catches consisted of Chinook, Coho, rainbow trout and lake trout.  Fish were commonly caught between 60 and 170 feet of water; Chinook were distributed throughout the water column, Coho and rainbow trout were hooked close to the surface and lake trout were typically hooked near the bottom.  Fish were caught with spoons, flasher/dodger flies and j-plugs on downriggers, dipsy divers and leadcore.  Conditions:  Air temperature was in the high 60’s to low 70’s, skies were partly cloudy to cloudy, there were light to moderate winds in various directions.

Pier:  Over the past few years, there has typically been light to moderate effort and exceptional action.  Chinook, Coho and rainbow trout have been caught from both piers on alewives and spoons throughout out the day.  Conditions: Water temperature was 46-56° F, water color was blue green with moderate to good clarity; air temperature was in the high 50’s to low 70’s, skies were cloudy and occasionally rainy, there were light to moderate winds in a variety of directions, usually many alewives in the area.

Power plant:  There is typically light effort in the area with a little action.  Brown trout and rainbow trout have been caught on spawn sacks.  Conditions:  Water color was blue green with moderate to good clarity.

Marina: There is typically light effort in the area with no action.  Pan fish have been caught on red worms in the southern boat slip.  Conditions:  Air temperature was in the mid 60’s, skies were mostly cloudy with rain later in the evening and there was a light wind to the southwest.

Cedar Grove:
Amsterdam Road
ramp:  Usually little or no effort and no action to report.

Sheboygan
Ramp:  Over the past few years, there has typically been moderate effort and the action has typically been slow.  Chinook, Coho, rainbows and lake trout have been caught.  Most fish were caught in 25 to 150 feet of water and approximately 50 feet down.  Fish were caught with spoons, flasher/dodger flies and j-plugs on downriggers, dipsy divers, planar boards and leadcore.  Conditions: Air temperature was in the low 60’s to mid 70’s, skies were clear to overcast and occasionally rainy, there were light to moderate winds in a variety of directions and water surface temperatures were in the mid 50’s to mid 60’s.

Piers:  Over the past few years, there has typically been moderate to strong effort and the action is usually exceptional.  Chinook, Coho, and rainbow trout, and brown trout have been caught off both piers throughout the day and night, mostly on alewives but also on spoons.  Conditions: Water temperatures were in the high 40’s to low 60’s, brown trout were caught when the water temperature was in the low 60’s, salmon and rainbow trout were caught when water temperature was in the 40’s and 50’s, water color was blue green with moderate to good clarity; air temperature was in the low 60’s to low 70’s, skies were usually cloudy and occasionally rainy, there were light to moderate winds in a variety of directions.  Brown trout have also been caught from the harbor side of the south pier on spoons, spinners and stick baits.

Shore:  There is usually little to no effort and very little action.  A Chinook salmon has been caught off the north point in the late morning by an angler casting spoons.  Conditions: Air temperature was in the low 70’s, skies were overcast with occasional rain and there was a light wind to the north.

Edgewater power plant:  There is usually no effort.

Cleveland:
Cleveland ramp:  Usually light effort with decent action.  Rainbow trout, Coho and Chinook have been caught in 50-90 feet of water on flies and spoons.
